Happy with the word patina
The history of Kryb i Ly inn can be traced back to 1601. But it wasn’t until 1737 that the building was named Kryb i Ly inn by King Christian VI.
“In 1973 the inn burned down, but was rebuilt in its original style the very next year. Later, in the 1980s, an extension was added and today we have 77 rooms. Otherwise, it looks the same as it always has. Of course, we have good beds, as well as screens and video conferencing equipment in our meeting rooms, but otherwise our decor is more charming and historic than modern. We really like things with soul”, the hotel manager says with a smile.
Classic croutons with a focus on quality
Despite its historic setting, the inn with its meeting facilities and accommodation also has a pool, sauna, games room and, not least, a popular restaurant specialising in Danish dishes with a focus on fresh, local and seasonal ingredients.
“Of course, we have classics like roast pork and wienerschnitzel on the menu. But we also have a more modern à la carte menu that allows our chefs to play around a bit more – and they are happy to take requests in advance. The most important thing for us is to buy from local producers as much as possible. For example, we buy eggs just a block away and buy Unika cheeses nearby,” says Anders Løkkegaard.
Although there is room for 180 guests in the inn’s restaurant, it’s not a given that the creations from the kitchen will be served there.
“We usually serve dinner in our royal parlour – or on the terrace during the summer months. You can also take your afternoon coffee or a bottle of rosé out onto the lawn, or take a picnic basket or packed lunch for an excursion. The sky’s the limit, even when it comes to catering,” he concludes.
